Final Fantasy 14 Players are Not Happy About New Cash Shop Items

NoahGames2025-07-199090

The Crystarium Rebel’s Attire, a new cash shop glamour set in Final Fantasy 14, has drawn the ire of fans due to its similarity to items that have existed in the game for years already. While this Final Fantasy 14 cosmetic set has a few unique traits to it, players are displeased at such a set being sold for real money at all.

The Final Fantasy 14 online store sells tons of different items, including various mounts, minions, and glamour sets. Many of these cosmetic outfits are those worn by major characters in the game, such as Y’shtola, G’raha Tia, and the Leveilleur twins, Alphinaud and Alisaie.

However, the latest outfit of this type has caused some controversy. The Crystarium Rebel’s Attire is a new outfit available for $12 in the cash shop, based on the one worn by Alisaie during the critically-acclaimed Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers expansion. While a fine outfit on its own, fans pointed out a major issue: most of the set already exists in the game in some fashion. Using items like the Astral Silk Doublet of Healing or Casting, the Angelic Thighboots, and the Lady’s Knickers, players can almost perfectly replicate this look with existing in-game gear, as displayed by FF14 content creator Meppermint Pocha on BlueSky.

There are a few differences between this new glamour and its existing counterparts, however. The sleeves of the outfit are of a different design, and the potions on the belt are red, rather than blue or purple. Additionally, the cash shop set uses the two dye channels introduced in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, rather than one, and can be worn by any class, rather than just healers and magic DPS. Even so, few fans think such small differences are worth real money, leading to no small amount of outrage over the set.

Interestingly enough, this has happened a couple of times in the past as well. Iceheart’s Attire, designed after Ysayle’s gear from Heavensward, shares similar appearances to several different pieces of existing gear, as does the Crystarium Prodigy's Attire, inspired by the outfit worn by Alisaie's brother from Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers. These glamours are still available in the cash shop for $12 each, so the Crystarium Rebel’s Attire will likely not be changed in response to the backlash either.

Unfortunately, Final Fantasy 14 has been missing the mark with several cash shop items lately. The Belt-leather sets FF14 released a few weeks earlier received hefty criticism for high cost, low quality, and baffling bundling practices. Hopefully, Final Fantasy 14 can listen to fan feedback so its future releases are met with less fury.
