Del Toro wrote the screenplay and serves as a producer alongside Miles Dale and Scott Stuber.
Del Toro said, “The most important figure from English legacy is,incredibly, for me, a teenager by the name of MaryShelley, and she has remained a figure as important inmy life as if she werefamily. And so many times whenI want to give up, when I think about giving up, whenpeople tell me thatdreaming of the movies and the storiesI dream are impossible, I think of her.”
Netflix and del Toro have worked with one another before. In addition to his work on the Tales of Arcadia franchise, the Pan’s Labyrinth director also created the Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities show in 2022. That was also the same year that his stop-motion Pinocchio movie was released on the streaming platform.
Frankenstein will have its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival next month, while it will also play at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September. It will then be released on Netflix in November 2025.
