With the passing of heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, we look back at the man’s relationship with his car collection. Or rather, we look at how his wife got in the way of that relationship, taking away all his rides after a disagreement and selling them off.
This Ferrari helped put Pink Floyd on the map.
That’s right, in Sharon Osbourne’s tell-all memoir Unbreakable, which came out in 2013, she admitted to selling all of her husband Ozzy’s cars at one point. We know people harbor a whole range of opinions about Sharon, so her actions and motivations will be received differently.
According to Sharon, at one point when she was working in Los Angeles and Ozzy was back at their estate in Buckinghamshire, UK, he fell off the wagon, started drinking and consuming other substances, then called her to say, “I think I need to be a bachelor.”
As the psalmist says, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, so Sharon got to work selling off the entirety of her husband’s $800,000 car collection.
We don’t know what all was in the garage at the time, but we do know Ozzy was particular to an Audi R8. There were two Ferraris as well, with one sold to a stranger and the other gifted to the couple’s son, Jack.
It’s no secret the Osbournes almost divorced numerous times, having a particularly rocky relationship.
However, for many gearheads, selling a car, let alone an entire collection, without consulting your spouse is enough to start divorce proceedings. Everyone’s heard the urban legends of some guy who buys a fantastic enthusiast ride for a fraction of its market price all because a wife wants to get even – so maybe that’s what happened with the Osbournes.
But to normies, cars are no big deal and Ozzy can just buy new ones anyway. He probably did, but we wonder if his Ferraris weren’t rare enough that just finding another that was for sale wasn’t likely.
