We may not hear any roaring or stomping but Greenville residents may soon see dinosaurs on the backs of trailers being shipped out of the former YMCA building at 1915 Stanford St. as it becomes the new manufacturing center for The Dinosaur Company.

Founded in 2003 by Larry and Sandra Billings, The Dinosaur company builds life-size animatronic dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures (like saber-toothed cats and giant insects) – mostly for zoos, museums and various traveling educational organizations who host animatronic exhibits.

“We’re relocating our full manufacturing operation from Allen to Greenville,” said the company’s vice president of operations/Larry and Sandra’s daughter Lauren Billings. “This new facility will serve as our central hub for designing, building and shipping animatronic pieces worldwide.

“It’s not just a warehouse, it’s where the magic happens. This move reflects a long-term investment in our craft and our team, and Greenville gives us the space and infrastructure to grow.”

And just as “Jurassic Park” needed its team of technicians and dino-handlers to keep things running, the manufacturing facility will be gradually phasing in staff. With plans to open the plant in mid-September, The Dinosaur Company will soon be reviewing applications for painters, assemblers, welders and field service technicians.

“Our production process is highly specialized and many roles are cross-functional,” Lauren said.
