The math is simple: Three concerts by 37 musicians at two locations add up to a beloved summer staple for fans of classical chamber music — minus the admission charge.

Returning for the 13th year, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra’s popular summer music series has remained free to the public since its inception.

With music director David Danzmayr at the helm of the world-class orchestra, the concerts offer classical tunes in a relaxed setting, where patrons are welcome to bring picnics, set up lawn chairs and spread out blankets.

The series will open with “A Night of Tango & Romance” at 7 p.m. Aug. 5 in Alum Creek Park North Amphitheater, 221 W. Main St., Westerville.

The concert will begin with three pieces by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, including “Le Grand Tango,” featuring principal violist Elias Goldstein. Mozart’s Symphony No. 9 and Edward Elgar’s “Salut D’Amour” will close the evening.

ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, led by music director David Danzmayr, will present its three-concert summer music series in early August at venues Downtown and in Westerville. The concerts are free.

The venue will change when ProMusica presents “The Pastoral Symphony” at 8 p.m. Aug. 7 at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 1777 E. Broad St.

The program will include FelixMendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture,” Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1, featuring principal horn player Stephanie Blaha, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral.”

Wrapping up the series, ProMusica will once again treat the audience to “A Night of Tango & Romance” at 8 p.m. Aug. 8 at Franklin Park Conservatory.

Both concerts at the conservatory will offer children’s activities beginning an hour before the performance.

Also at the Franklin Park Conservatory concerts, reserved VIP table seating with a limited menu is available for preorder for $72 per person. Tables are available for a minimum of two to no more than 10 guests per table. A full bar will be available for purchase.

VIP table reservations and more information can be found at promusicacolumbus.org.
