One of just 14 RUF CTR 2 Sports, this 580-hp air-cooled legend could command $3 million at Monterey.
A 1998 RUF CTR 2 Sport, one of the rarest and most advanced air-cooled supercars of the 1990s, will take center stage at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Monterey Jet Center sale on August 14, 2025. Estimated between $3 million and $3.5 million, the lightweight, all-wheel-drive supercar is one of only 14 CTR 2 Sport models built.

Developed as the successor to RUF’s legendary CTR “Yellowbird,” the CTR 2 pushed engineering boundaries when it debuted in 1995. Powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six producing 580 horsepower in Sport trim, the car was capable of 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and boasted a 217 mph top speed—making it the world’s fastest production car at the time.

Built on Porsche’s 993 platform, the CTR 2 Sport incorporated cutting-edge technology, including RUF’s Integrated Roll Cage, carbon-ceramic brakes, and driver-adjustable all-wheel drive. Wider bodywork, track-tuned suspension, and a bi-functional rear wing optimized for both downforce and cooling further distinguished the Sport variant.

This particular example, chassis W09BC0360WPR06007, was originally ordered by renowned RUF customer Frank Beddor, who famously hosted Alois Ruf’s wedding reception. Originally finished in black, the car later received a striking full green leather interior and Bilstein PSS10 coilovers during a factory refresh in Germany. It has covered fewer than 17,000 miles and recently underwent a full service at RUF North America in July 2025.

The CTR 2 Sport’s racing pedigree also adds to its allure. RUF entered two similar cars at the 1997 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, where they stunned the competition by finishing second and fourth overall—despite being street-legal.

For collectors, this CTR 2 Sport represents the pinnacle of RUF’s air-cooled engineering and a rare chance to own a piece of 1990s supercar history. See it here.
