Royal Caribbean gives parents peace of mind with new ship feature originally appeared on TravelHost.

As a mom who cruises with my kids, I know well that kids’ clubs are one of the best things about vacationing on a cruise ship as a family.

No matter which cruise line we’ve sailed, my kids have loved every minute of their time making new cruise friends in the ship’s kids’ club.

After a day exploring a port together as a family, it’s always nice forboth kids and parents to spend a little time doing their own thing, and cruise ship kids’ programs make that easy.

Most mainstream cruise lines offer supervised kids’ programs included with your cruise fare that are designed for kids of all ages. From preschoolers to teenagers, kids can play and hang out in safe and engaging environments tailored to their age group and interests.

But even if your kids are excited to stay and play and you’re looking forward to some adults-only time, leaving your kids in an unfamiliar setting can sometimes be a bit stressful, even if you know they’re in good hands.

Of course, youth staff will contact you if your child needs you, but sometimes you may wish you could easily check in on them from anywhere you may be on the ship. And even if your child is with another adult in your traveling party, you’ll probably enjoy your alone time more if you still know exactly where your kid is at all times.

That’s why Royal Caribbean is rolling out a new Find My Kid app feature on board its brand-new Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean adds new Find My Kid app feature on Star of the Seas

To help parents feel more relaxed on super-sized cruise vacations on its new Icon Class ship, Royal Caribbean is introducing a new Adventure Ocean kids’ club feature that will make keeping tabs on your kids easier on board Star of the Seas.

Using a new Find My Kid feature in the Royal Caribbean app, parents will be able to see the location of their kids in some areas of Star of the Seas, like certain public venues and staterooms, through the app’s deck maps.

At this time, the Find My Kid feature is only available for Royal Caribbean cruises on Star of the Seas, even though the cruise line previously tested it on Star’s sister ship, Icon of the Seas.

And although many parents would probably like to use Find My Kid to track their teens on board, it’s only available for kids ages three to 12 who are registered for the Adventure Ocean kids’ club.

How do you use Find My Kid on Star of the Seas?

No internet package will be required to use the Find My Kid feature with the Royal Caribbean app, but families will need to purchase the Adventure Ocean WOW Band for $14.99. This water-resistant wristband is required for location tracking in the app.

Kids can also use their Adventure Ocean WOW Band to unlock their stateroom door and make purchases on board with prior parent authorization.

Once you register your child for Adventure Ocean on board Star of the Seas and purchase the WOW Band, you can sign up for Find My Kid in the Royal Caribbean app. You can also choose to share Find My Kid tracking with other guardians sailing with you.

Using Find My Kid doesn’t mean you should feel free to let young children explore the ship unsupervised. Find My Kid is meant to make it easier for parents to enjoy their time when their kids are being supervised by another adult — whether that’s the Adventure Ocean youth staff or another adult in your traveling party. It can also be very helpful to reduce the chance of a child getting lost on board.
