CBS’ Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue will feature another character from the original series, albeit played by a different actor.

Mika Amonsen (Thanksgiving) has joined the show’s cast as Sean Reagan, the youngest son of series lead Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan. Amonsen will take over the role played by Andrew Terraciano throughout Blue Bloods’ 14-season run on CBS.

The first-year series, which began production this week, follows Danny as he moves on from the NYPD to take a position with the Boston police. The cast also includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson and Marcus Scribner.

Amsonen’s Sean Reagan has also relocated to Boston, where he becomes a patrolman for the Boston PD. Per the character’s description, “Sean committed himself to pursuing his family’s legacy but wanted to do so on his own terms, which meant joining a department outside of his hometown. Danny’s decision to stay in Boston gives this father and son duo a chance to reconnect on a deeper level.”

CBS placed a series order for Boston Blue in February, two months after the series finale of Blue Bloods. The new show hails from CBS Studios, as did Blue Bloods, but will be led by a different creative team than its predecessor: Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis (The Blacklist, Alert: Missing Persons Unit) are the showrunners and executive produce with Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Wahlberg.

Amonsen’s credits also include episodes of Reacher, Murdoch Mysteries and Suits. He is repped by Daniel Abrams at OAZ and Adam Levine at Amplified.
