Fantastic Four Director Reveals Big Reason First Steps is Set in Alternate Universe
The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman has opened up about one of the reasons that the upcoming film takes place in an alternate universe.
Why did Matt Shakman say The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in a different universe?
During a recent appearance at the film’s IMAX launch in the United Kingdom, Shakman explained that, one of the bigger reasons that the film takes place on a different Earth than the MCU fans have known is due to the obvious questions fans would have if they were.
“We didn’t want them to be on this Earth (616) or the Earth with all the Marvel characters because where were they when Thanos came, right? They would have helped out. They would have solved the problem then,” said Shakman.

The cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is led by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, andEbon Moss-Bachrachas Ben Grimm. The film also includes Ralph Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer. Additionally, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Kevin Feige serves as a producer on the project, while executive producers include Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis. Mitch Bell is a co-producer, while the music comes from Michael Giacchino.
