Hallelujah — new episodes of Beyond the Gates are back. After a week of repeats, the newest soap on the block returned with an intense episode. On Monday, July 7, Smitty’s source fed him a pretty huge lead, one that could paint a certain Dupree in an interesting light. Meanwhile, Randy reported back to Joey, who decided to do damage control. As for Martin, he wasn’t doing well. But by the end of the episode, he might have had a valid reason to be freaking out.

Smitty’s Incendiary Lead

Smitty (Mike Manning) talked to his high-level source, who had a choice piece of intel for him. Internal Affairs questioned Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) during their investigation into Detective Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy) roughly eight months ago. It could be about what happened two years ago. Or it was a completely separate matter and helped out Marcel not out of the goodness of his heart. But because the two are entangled in the Martin (Brandon Claybon) mystery, and Vernon had no choice.

Regardless, Smitty knows it is big that the Dupree patriarch is tied to the shady detective. Smitty lied to his husband about what he found. One thing, though. Why does he continue to go to the police precinct to talk to Jacob (Jibre Hordges) in front of all the other cops? It’s how Elon (Malachi Malik) learned valuable intel — he already eavesdropped on Jacob and Smitty’s conversation once. Those two need a non-public place to talk. Not the precinct and certainly not Orphey Gene’s.

Meltdown for Martin

Meanwhile, Martin freaked out. On Monday, he called Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) and raged via voicemail when he didn’t reach the attorney. He accosted a county club busboy he thought was Kenneth (Jason Vendryes). Turned out the bigoted busboy had already quit. And then at the end, when he walked into the door of his place and there was Kenneth at a table with his son. Martin is starting to lose it.

Was that Kenneth sitting with his son at the table? Or is the congressman having another one of his waking visions/nightmares? If this is for real, where did Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) run into this guy? And more importantly…

If Randy Can’t Stand the Heat, He Needs to Get Out of the Kitchen

Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) told Joey (Jon Lindstrom) he had completed his assignment. He said he shot Kenneth and disposed of the body. He even came back with Joey’s blackmail money. But if Kenneth is alive, why did Randy lie? He knows that if/when Armstrong discovers his deceit, he’s going to need to be 3000 miles across the country away from the casino club owner.

He’s also in a lose-lose situation because if he did murder the busboy, then he’s going to need to hightail it out of town sooner rather than later because he claimed there was a witness to him dumping the body. So which is it? Did Randy lie to Joey or tell him the truth?

Regardless, Randy says he’s terrified of Joey, and he needs to get out of town. Will he fess all to Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) and Doug (Jason Graham) before he goes?
