Hideo Kojima Comments on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

MykaGames2025-08-0110020

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima recently shared some brief thoughts on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The original Metal Gear Solid 3 is considered by many to be the crown jewel of the massively influential Metal Gear franchise, and Konami will finally release an updated remake on August 28. Just like the original, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a prequel starring Big Boss, who must embark on a dangerous mission to undermine a Soviet superweapon during the Cold War.

While Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will retain the stealth gameplay and memorable characters that made the original Metal Gear Solid 3 a classic to many gamers, Hideo Kojima himself isn’t involved in any capacity. This is due in part to Kojima’s very public falling out with Konami back in 2015, which ultimately led to the establishment of former Metal Gear developer Kojima Productions as the standalone studio that would go on to create the Death Stranding series.

Fans have been wondering how Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will fare without Hideo Kojima, and the legendary creative recently weighed in on the upcoming remake in an interview with Ssense. Kojima was asked if he would play Metal Gear Solid Delta when it launches on August 28, and he simply laughed and said that he won’t. He made no further comment on Metal Gear Solid Delta at this time.

Kojima would go on to describe how he chose to make Death Stranding 2: On the Beach instead of pursuing a new project because it is his IP, and that his goals of expanding into other media like anime and films come from his “business side.” He also has two other video games in the works at the moment: OD, a surreal horror title Kojima is co-writing alongside noted Hollywood director Jordan Peele, and a supposed Metal Gear successor tentatively titled Physint. Outside of gaming, a live-action Death Stranding movie is being written and directed by A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski.

With all of these projects in the works, it looks like Hideo Kojima will be too busy to try out Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. His absence from the Metal Gear series since 2015’s Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has naturally raised many questions about how the franchise will continue without its creator, though Konami has promised that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will remain faithful to the 2004 original. Fans will get to see this for themselves when the remake launches in late August.
