Steam User Spots Unexpected Game in Coming Soon Section That Definitely Shouldn’t Be There

Steam users have spotted the controversial early-access title The Day Before in the "Coming Soon" section of the Steam store, raising questions as to why the game is being advertised. The infamously short-lived survival extraction shooter has not been available for purchase on the store since December 11, 2023, when The Day Before was pulled from Steam's marketplace just four days post-launch.

The Day Before had its fair share of skeptics well before its swift demise, with questions surrounding developer Fntastic's credibility surfacing as early as the game's announcement in January 2021. Leading up to its launch in early access, Fntastic and The Day Before suffered multiple delays, accusations of unpaid labor, and an alleged trademark dispute that saw the title briefly pulled from Steam. When Fntastic's game finally released on December 7, 2023, it didn't take long before skeptics were vindicated, as Steam began processing refunds for anyone who purchased The Day Before and pulled the game from its storefront less than a week later.

One of the most widely panned games in recent memory, The Day Before, somehow still has a single active user running the game on Steam.

A Reddit user who goes by Thadgarcy recently posted a screenshot of the MMO category of the Steam store's "Coming Soon" tab, which surprisingly lists The Day Before as an upcoming title. While the listing could be interpreted as another comeback attempt by The Day Before developer Fntastic, the game's appearance on the Steam store is likely a simple error. Although The Day Before is not available for purchase, it is still searchable on Steam and listed as an early access game.

Steam Store Lists The Day Before as 'Coming Soon'

This isn't the first time The Day Before has suddenly threatened to return to Steam's shelves. According to Steam forum discussion posts dating back as far as November 2024, The Day Before has sporadically reappeared in players' wishlists, only to eventually disappear again. Considering the servers for The Day Before have long since been shut down, it is unlikely that the game's reappearance for some players is little more than a store glitch.

Despite the controversial early access launch for The Day Before and its aftermath, Fntastic is continuing to develop new games. The developer's upcoming game, ITEMS, is being advertised as a prop hunt game, which has already begun to draw criticisms and comparisons to The Day Before for hosting a competition for players to develop its maps. Winners were promised a free copy of the game rather than a monetary prize, which critics compared to earlier accusations that Fntastic had solicited unpaid labor to develop The Day Before.
