Baldur's Gate 3 Shadowheart actor Jennifer English has advised fans to avoid playing as her character in future playthroughs. According to English, playing as Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 could lead to players missing out on some worthwhile content.

Shadowheart immediately became one of the most popular companions in Baldur's Gate 3 when the game launched almost two years ago. Her charming personality and compelling individual journey had fans gripped, and it was no huge surprise to discover that Shadowheart was also Baldur's Gate 3's most romanced companion. For many, she remains a party staple in subsequent playthroughs of the game, no matter how many times they have previously played.

As spotted by TheGamer, Baldur's Gate 3 Shadowheart actor Jennifer English recently appeared on Fall Damage, a show in which she must try to remember her characters' most famous lines. After recalling Shadowheart's line during Baldur's Gate 3's character creation screen, English pointed out, "It's the idle at the beginning. Where you can possibly play as me... but don't do that, because then you lose loads of my conversational dialogue."

English is correct, in that using Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 as a companion offers a lot more in the way of dialogue than using her as the game's protagonist. It's somewhat ironic that the reason she's such a good companion is part of why she's not the best main character pick. Her content is simply too interesting, and losing the majority of that feels like too much of a shame for most to follow through with.

It remains to be seen whether English is done with Baldur's Gate and Shadowheart. With no DLCs on the way, her role in Baldur's Gate 3 is fully complete, but there's always the possibility that the character returns in the future. Last year, English revealed her conditions for returning as Shadowheart in future Baldur's Gate games, claiming she would want the role to be "beautifully written," even if Larian Studios isn't involved next time around.
