The Bold and the Beautiful star Rebecca Budig has spent her career working in the soap world. Budig is a fan-favorite soap star, having worked on four different daytime dramas.

While she’s grateful for her career and the past three decades working in the genre, it hasn’t always been a walk in the park. On the premiere episode of her Soapy podcast, Budig reflected on her 30 years in the business.

Budig told her co-host, Days of Our Lives star Greg Rikaart, that how her Guiding Light exit was handled taught her a harsh lesson about working in the television industry. It was Budig’s choice to leave the show, and by the time she exited, One Tree Hill alum Bethany Joy Lenz had been cast as her replacement.

“I do remember how harsh things can be. I was leaving the show, and Joy Lenz was starting, and they literally had me do Act 6, hit a guy on the head with a rock, walk off, and she’s in the same outfit, and she does the same thing the next day,” she recalled.

The soap vet added, “I remember feeling a little ick about that. It felt wrong, and I remember I didn’t really think about it, but other people really thought it was distasteful. But I guess that happens in the world of TV and soaps.”

Despite how she felt about her exit, Budig has nothing but love for her time on Guiding Light. It was her first job and taught her a lot.

“It was such a good experience. I just remember being young, and feeling super connected to Peter Simon, and Michael O’Leary, and Amy Cox, and Kim Zimmer. I just loved it, but I had nothing to compare it to. I didn’t work a ton, so I got to go to acting class and live in New York,” the actress expressed.

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
