Matt Cameron, Pearl Jam Drummer, Quits After 27 Years

Pearl Jam is going to have to look for another stick man. After performing with the band since 1998, drummer Matt Cameron is leaving Pearl Jam.
"I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam," Cameron announced on social media on Monday, July 7. The news was picked up by The Hollywood Reporterand elsewhere.
In his post, Cameron thanked the other members of the band, noting: "Much love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me into the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter. I am forever grateful to the crew, staff and fans the world over. It’s been an incredible journey."
Matt Cameron is currently 62 years old and didn't provide any more concrete reason for leaving the band, other than it seems like he felt like it was time. Cameron is also not the first Pearl Jam drummer. In fact, he's technically the fifth drummer for the band, and that's assuming we don't count the fact that during his tenure, there was also touring drummer Richard Stuverud in 2022.

Pearl Jam recently completed a massive tour in May 2025. It's unclear if the band has yet to find a replacement on the drums for Cameron.
