United States companies continue to lead the world in business and finance. A total of 612 U.S.-based companies were included in the Forbes Global 2000 list for 2025, which ranks the largest public companies worldwide.

The figure surpasses that of the closest rival, China, which had 317 companies represented.

Furthermore, the U.S. is home to six of the top 10 companies on the Global 2000 — Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon, Bank of America, Microsoft and Alphabet all join JPMorgan for the second straight year — and 15 of the top 25 overall.

The 612 American companies on the Forbes Global 2000 list collectively hold a market value of $50.2 trillion, more than half of the total $91 trillion represented by all 2,000 companies, despite making up less than one-third of the list.

Together, these U.S.-based firms also account for $19.5 trillion in sales, $2 trillion in profits, and $61.1 trillion in assets.

Of those 612 companies, 12 are headquartered in Tennessee. Here's which Tennessee companies made the list and where they ranked.

Methodology

The Forbes Global 2000 list was compiled using data from FactSet to identify the largest publicly traded companies across four key metrics: sales, profits, assets, and market value. Market value was calculated based on closing prices as of April 25, 2025, and includes all common shares outstanding.

All financial figures were consolidated and presented in U.S. dollars. The rankings were based on the most recent 12-month financial data available as of April 25, 2025.

To begin the ranking process, four separate lists were created, each consisting of the top 2,000 companies by sales, profits, assets, and market value. Minimum thresholds were applied for inclusion: $5.9 billion in sales, $399 million in profits, $14.1 billion in assets, and $7.9 billion in market value.

A company must meet at least one of these thresholds to be considered for the final Global 2000 ranking. In total, 3,385 companies qualified for at least one of the four lists.

Story Continues

Each company received a score for each metric based on its position within the respective list. The scores were equally weighted and combined to produce a composite score. Companies were then ranked in descending order based on their composite scores, with the highest score receiving the top rank on the Forbes Global 2000 list.

Publicly traded subsidiaries whose financials are consolidated by a parent company were excluded from the rankings. Companies lacking reliable or timely data were also excluded.
