Elder Scrolls Game That Was Shut Down is Making a Comeback

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is making a comeback, thanks to the efforts of its most dedicated fans. The Elder Scrolls: Legends has been offline since the end of January, 2025, despite the title having received positive reviews over its time online.

An unfortunate part of online gaming is the inevitable day when a game goes offline. In some cases, a game might still be playable in some form, with offline and split-screen modes, but this isn't always the case. The loss of games like these is part of what's helped Stop Killing Games to get over a million signatures from frustrated gamers who miss titles they once played that are now totally inaccessible.

Now, some fans are looking to revive the shut down The Elder Scrolls: Legends, and they've made significant progress already. On Reddit, a user named RenianVZ revealed four months ago that they were working on bringing the game back with the title Elder Scrolls: Legends Reborn. The fan actually got work started before the game went offline, saying that they had a server emulation project in the works starting in December 2024. However, the project has now seen a significant advancement, with Renian releasing a new gameplay video demonstrating multiplayer matches working in the game. The voices and card animations work as they should, and are heard and visible to both players.

Elder Scrolls Legends Reborn Isn't Ready Yet

While fans are already excited to get their hands on the game again, Renian has tempered expectations by explaining that the game isn't ready for primetime, and that it doesn't have a release date yet. At the moment, the multiplayer match demonstrated is creating decks at random for players. The project lead was excited to note that there was a new member of the team that was working on the game's front end. Fans who think they have a skillset that could be useful may want to reach out to the lead to see if they can assist. Outside of that, Elder Scrolls fans will have to be patient and see how the project progresses.

There have been some concerns whether Bethesda will allow this project to proceed, but the company has been quite supportive of fan projects in the past. Fellow Elder Scrolls game Oblivion is still getting a fan remake, even with the official Oblivion Remastered having recently launched. While it remains to be seen how far the Elder Scrolls: Legends Reborn project can go with reviving the game, it's clear that its most dedicated fans would be grateful to see it back in its former glory.
