Publisher Sony and developer Arrowhead Game Studios have revealed what's coming next for the hit cooperative shooter Helldivers 2, in the form of the new Control Group Warbond DLC pack. Helldivers 2 expands the playable weapon and Stratagem selection through Warbond packs, which typically add armor, cosmetics, weapons, and gadgets for players to use in missions.

In the wake of the news that Helldivers 2 will launch on Xbox in August 2025, the game continues to enjoy a new wave of interest and engagement from players. Veteran players are returning to the game after time away, anticipating a surge in activity will bring new life to the in-game Galactic War, while curious new players who'd written the game off as a PlayStation exclusive are paying attention to updates and looking forward to the Xbox launch. And in the meantime, Arrowhead sweetens the deal by adding new content via free updates, as well as regular Warbond DLC drops.

The latest of those drops is called the Control Group Warbond, which challenges players to make the most of exotic new technology from Super Earth's Ministry of Science Research and Development team. Based on the preview trailer and an accompanying PlayStation Blog post detailing the DLC's contents, the Control Group Warbond will focus on experimental weapons based on alien tech. The DLC will unlock two new Helldivers 2 armor sets, a new primary weapon, three new Stratagems, and a new throwable weapon. Cosmetic upgrades like capes, banners, titles, and emotes are also part of the Control Group Warbond, which launches on July 17.

One of the most notable additions from the Helldivers 2 Control Group Warbond DLC is the addition of an entirely new way for Helldivers to travel. The LIFT-182 Warp Pack is a backpack-based Helldivers 2 Stratagem that allows the player to instantly teleport short distances, making it trivial to avoid harm or escape a swarm of enemies. Unfortunately, the pack grows more unstable with each jump, increasing the risk that the wearer will be instantly killed when they try. Other additions include the PLAS-45 Epoch, a new cannon-style plasma weapon that deals heavy damage, and the VG-70 Variable primary weapon, a massive seven-barreled weapon that can fire from each barrel in turn or from all of them at once. The Warbond will also add a new sentry-type weapon that mounts a laser beam that never needs to reload.

The reaction to the news of the Control Group Warbond among players was mostly positive, with many players looking forward to the Epoch, which has an overcharge mechanic that recalls the beloved Helldivers 2 Railgun weapon. Others worried that the new armor sets might even be "overpowered" thanks to their passive effect, which can revive a player from lethal damage once. Whatever happens, it looks like anticipation is high for the new Warbond DLC.
