A Sea of Thieves Community Direct discussing the future of the game has been scheduled for July 10. The first-ever event of its kind, the broadcast's premiere will almost perfectly coincide with the start of another Sea of Thieves event that Rare has already penciled for July 10.
The last few weeks marked some turbulent times for Rare. In early July 2025, Microsoft started conducting significant layoffs, seeking to eliminate as many as 9,000 positions across its many subsidiaries, primarily people in management roles. Rare was affected by this downsizing, with several of its veterans—Gregg Mayles and Louise O'Connor—reportedly being laid off. Everwild, Rare's next AAA game that had been in development since 2014, has reportedly been canceled as part of the same restructuring efforts.

Sea of Remnants Means Sea of Thieves Can't Rest on its Laurels
With Sea of Remnants slated for next year, Sea of Thieves may have to kick its content up a notch ahead of the competitor's launch.
PostsA week after the layoff news dropped, Rare announced a "community direct" that will preview the immediate future of Sea of Thieves. The broadcast is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, beginning at 7am PT / 10am ET / 4pm CET. In a prepared statement, Rare described this as the first event of its kind, a change already highlighted by the new name. In terms of format, the Community Direct will feature Creative Director Mike Chapman and four other senior members of the team talking about what Sea of Thieves has in store for the second half of 2025.

Close Community Direct (10am ET / 4pm CET) Pirate Emporium Staff Picks Sale (until July 15)July 10 will also mark the start of another Sea of Thieves Pirate Emporium sale. Dubbed the "staff picks" sale, it's described as a prelude to Rare's upcoming 40th anniversary celebrations. The Lodestar Set is confirmed to be part of the upcoming sale, together with the ever-entertaining Pocket Crab Emote.
Where to Watch Sea of Thieves July 2025 Community Direct
Twitch YouTubeOriginally introduced in January 2022, the Lodestar Set is regularly priced at 8,432 Ancient Coins, assuming every item is purchased individually. The Pocket Crab Emote has a much more accessible base price of 249 AC. One thing that makes it stand out is that it's effectively four different emotes triggered at random whenever it's used. One of them is an endearing animation of the said pocket crab pinching the character's nose.
The Pirate Emporium sale is planned to run until July 15. No specific start and end times have yet been provided for the event. Rare has also yet to share the full list of deals partaking in the sale. In the meantime, the July 10 Community Direct is confirmed to cover the upcoming Sea of Thieves seasons, plural, meaning fans can expect to learn more about new content going as far as Season 18. The Season 17 start date, expected to fall sometime in late August 2025, seems like the most obvious announcement candidate for the event.
